Splitzy Privacy Policy

Splitzy ("we", "us") is a receipt-splitting app. This policy explains what personal data we collect, why, and how you can control it. If you have questions, contact support@splitzy.app.

Data we collect

• Account info: name and email address when you sign in with Apple or Google, or the name you enter when using Splitzy without an account.
• User content: receipts you photograph, items you extract, people you add, and splits you save.
• Payment handles: Venmo usernames or Cash App handles you add to contacts.
• Device identifiers: an anonymous per-device ID (Apple's identifierForVendor) used to enforce free-tier scan limits and protect against abuse.
• Purchase history: which Apple in-app purchases you've made, used to unlock features. Apple handles the payment itself; we never see your card data.
• Diagnostic data: crash reports and aggregate usage analytics via Firebase Crashlytics and Firebase Analytics.

How your receipts are processed

When you scan a receipt, Splitzy first tries to extract items on your device using Apple's Vision framework. If on-device extraction is inconclusive, the image is sent to our server, which forwards it to an AI partner (OpenAI or Google Gemini) to extract items, prices, and tax. The image and extracted text are used only to return the parse result to your device. We do not sell this data.

Improving Splitzy

We may use anonymized and aggregated signals from receipt scans — such as extracted item names, prices, OCR confidence, and parser accuracy — to improve our receipt-parsing models and the overall quality of the service. Any data used for this purpose is de-identified and is not linked to your name, email, or account. We do not sell training data to third parties. If you'd like your data excluded from service-improvement use, email support@splitzy.app and we'll honor the request.

Where your data is stored

If you sign in with Apple or Google, your profile, contacts, saved groups, credit card list (names only — never numbers), and split history are stored in Google Firebase (Firestore and Firebase Storage) under an account keyed to your Firebase user ID. Security rules restrict access so only your signed-in session can read or write your data.

If you continue without an account, your data stays on your device and is not uploaded to our servers.

Data sharing

We do not sell personal data. We share data only with the processors listed above (Apple, Google Firebase, and — for inconclusive receipts — our AI parsing partners), and only to the extent required to deliver the features you use.

Your choices and rights

• Delete your account: open Splitzy → Account → Delete Account. This permanently removes your profile, contacts, groups, and split history from our servers.
• Use without an account: you can use Splitzy's core features without creating an account. Data stays on-device.
• Cancel your subscription: manage or cancel auto-renewing purchases in the App Store Settings on your device.
• Revoke permissions: camera, photos, microphone, contacts, and speech recognition can be revoked in iOS Settings at any time.
• Request data: email support@splitzy.app to request an export or manual deletion of any data we hold about you.

Children

Splitzy is not directed at children under 13 and we don't knowingly collect personal data from them. If you believe a child has submitted data, please contact us.

Changes to this policy

We may update this policy as the app changes. The "Last updated" date at the top will reflect the most recent revision.
